Tree planting

The Science Department entered and won a competition run by the Woodland Trust to create our own Urban Mini Habitat.

The school was awarded a selection of 12 saplings native to the UK to plant on the school grounds.  Student volunteers participated in the planting ceremony during Science Week and raised awareness of ecology issues and the need to think about protection of our environment.

These saplings will eventually develop into an enclave of trees that encourages wildlife and supports other plant and animal species found in urban environments.  Students will be able to study the habitat and learn about the interaction of organisms around us and how species are dependent on each other.  Hopefully the actions of today’s budding scientists at Chadwell Heath Academy are laying the roots for future generations of students to flourish into caretakers for our environment.
