U15 Boys Handball Redbridge Champions

After the success of the U13 boys handball team it was now down to their older peers to progress in the competition Chadwell have won the previous 3 years. This time 7 schools competed in the borough and it was very closely fought in games with only 1 or 2 goals difference between the teams.

In the group stages Chadwell faced strong opposition in Oaks Park, Seven Kings and Issac Newton Academy. The first game against Oaks Park settled the boys in but still finished close in a 5-4 win for Chadwell. The next group game was against a Seven Kings team boasting one of the taller players at the competition but a hard fought win and 2 quick goals from Justin meant the boys got away and won that game 4-1. The last was against Issac Newton who beat us in the final a couple of years ago. A good start put us ahead and the boys held onto their lead with the last play of the game making it 3-2. Top of the group and into the semi final.

Next up was Wanstead, a team who changed things up by playing a very strong defensive game. Unfortunately the boys did not respond well to this and started panicking on the ball and losing their way a bit. After being tied at 1-1 it went down to sudden death, next goal wins. After a minute and a half Chadwell got the breakthrough. 2-1 and the boys were into the final! Ecstatic they had got through but a disappointed Mr Jellett and Miss Knott had some stern words about how the boys played and what needed to change for the final.

In the final the boys looked calm and composed. They had settled into the game and faced Issac Newton who they had previously beaten in their group. Some fantastic saves from goalkeeper Ilhaan meant that the boys had a good defensive display and played some much better handball compared to the semi final. Going forwards we were  force and this was demonstrated in the dominant play. 4-1 the final score and the boys progress into the London youth games unbeaten. They replicate the success of the U13 boys and hopefully both teams can go further in the competition.
