UKMT Junior Maths Challenge

Before the summer holidays, the top 60 pupils in the current year 9 in Chadwell Heath Academy sat the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge. Pupils are awarded Gold if they’re in the top 10% in the country, and Silver if they’re in the next ~ 20%. Only the very highest achieving pupils nationwide qualify for the next round, the Kangaroo Challenge.

As a school, we achieved 19 bronze winners, 6 silvers (Ethan Akor, Srikar Gunda, Ahsan Mohammed, Sana Khan, Jayden Sureshbabu and Nikisha Vithlani) and 1 gold winner, Yahya Undre.

This is the third year running that we have had some of our gold winners progress to the next round. This year, our gold pupil scored high enough to compete in the Kangaroo challenge. Yahya achieved a certificate of Merit after gaining 103 marks out of 135 (79%). This is a first for Chadwell Heath, and a huge well done goes to our brilliant mathematician, Yahya, for doing so well. Two questions from the Junior Kangaroo, which Yahya got correct have also been attached, for anyone who would like a challenge. (solutions attached as well)
