Year 9 Students Shine in the UK Bebras Challenge
We’re delighted to share the fantastic achievements of our Year 9 students in this year’s UK Bebras Challenge. This nationwide competition, run by the University of Oxford, is designed to test computational thinking skills such as problem-solving, logic, and creativity. It’s a challenging and rewarding experience, and our students have certainly risen to the occasion.
In our first year of participation, 32 of our Year 9 students entered the competition, and we’re proud to say that every single one of them earned a certificate for their efforts. What’s even more impressive is that 10 of them achieved the prestigious Gold Award, placing them in the top 10% of all participants nationally. With over 300,000 students across the UK taking part, this is an incredible accomplishment, and the fact that nearly a third of our entrants earned a Gold Award—a ratio that far surpasses the national average and speaks volumes about their talent and hard work.
A special congratulations goes to one of our students, who achieved an outstanding score of 209 out of 220, earning the title of Best in School and placing him among the highest scorers in the country. Our other Gold Award winners—Siyana Sabur, Ibrahim Ahmed, Adeena Ali, Saffiyyah Talati, Victoria Bukatchuk, Inrahim Ibn Kashim, Raiyaan Uddin, Kane Brown, and Fatima Farrukh—also deserve huge recognition for their achievements.
Gold Award winners may now have the opportunity to be invited to the Oxford Computing Challenge, a follow-up competition that builds on the skills they’ve already demonstrated. We’re hopeful that these students will have the chance to take part and further showcase their abilities in computational thinking and programming.
We’re incredibly proud of all our participants for their effort, enthusiasm, and commitment to tackling the Bebras Challenge. Their success reflects the potential of our young learners. Well done to everyone involved—you’ve done our school proud!
